O meu nome é Rita e estou a angariar fundos para a Destiny Welfare Center para os ajudar a construir três salas de aula para 100 crianças refugiadas na Malásia.

Por que decidi angariar fundos?

 A Destiny foi a primeira ONG que entrei em contato quando cheguei à Malásia, enquanto trabalhava com a NGOhub. Um centro comunitário único de aprendizagem que fornece educação e cuidados a crianças refugiadas. Nos últimos dois anos, este centro tornou-se uma escola para 100 crianças (imigrantes e refugiados), entre os 2 e os 10 anos de idade, que oferece aulas diárias de inglês, refeições saudáveis ​​preparadas na hora, cuidados de higiene e apoio e aconselhamento aos pais.

Durante os últimos meses, começámos a angariar fundos online para a Destiny, mas só conseguimos adquirir 1300€. Destiny Welfare Center ainda conseguiu doações offline para as infra-estruturas, mas eles ainda precisam de fundos para fornecimento de eletricidade (650€), mobília (650€), casas-de-banho e chuveiros(1000€), alimentação e produtos de higiene (900€). 

Além da grande ligação pessoal que tenho com esta ONG na Malásia, tenho uma grande conexão com a causa das crianças refugiadas.

De volta a Portugal, país onde nasci e todos os países europeus para onde viajei, a educação é um direito de todas as crianças independentemente da sua religião, raça, nacionalidade ou estatuto legal. No entanto, a Malásia oferece poucas garantias para os refugiados. As crianças sofrem com restrições à educação.  O seu status no país é complicado pelo fato de a Malásia não ter assinado a Convenção dos Refugiados da ONU de 1951 e não ter nenhuma lei ou política nacional sobre refugiados.

Como podes apoiar esta causa? 

Eu gostaria de perguntar a todos os meus amigos, amigos dos meus amigos, todos aqueles que me conhecem, todos os que não me conhecem, para me ajudar a angariar RM 15.000, que é o equivalente a 3.200 €, para ajudar terminar a construção das 3 salas de aula que vão garantir um espaço seguro para mais de 100 crianças refugiadas terem acesso a creche e escolas primária.

My name it’s Rita and i’m raising funds for Destiny Welfare Centre to help set up 3 classrooms for 100 refugee children's in Malaysia.

Why have I decided to fundraise?

Destiny was the first NGO i get in contact with when i first arrive to Malaysia while working with NGOhub. A unique community learning centre that provides education and care to refugee children. In the last two years, this center has become a school for 80 children (migrants and refugees), between 2 and 10 years old that provides daily English classes, freshly cooked healthy meals, showers, and parental support and counselling.

During the last months we start raising funds online for Destiny, therefore we only manage to raise RM6000. Destiny Welfare Centre manage to raise offline the rest of the funds needed for the infrastructure, but they still need the funds for Electrical supply(RM3000), Furniture(RM3000), Toilets and showers(RM2000) and food&higiene products(RM5000).

Besides the big personal connection i have with this NGO in Malaysia, i have a big connection with the refugee children's cause.

Back in Portugal, country where i was born and all the European countries that I’ve travelled for, education it’s a right for all the children independently of their religion, race, nationality or legal status. Yet Malaysia offers few protections for refugees children bear the brunt of restrictions on education and work for their parents.

Their status in the country is complicated by the fact that Malaysia has not signed the 1951 U.N. Refugee Convention and has no national refugee law or policy. Whether refugees are registered with UNHCR or not, they cannot work or send their children to government schools.

How can you support?

I would like to ask all my friends, all my friends friends, all the ones that know me, all that don’t know me, to help me raise RM15,000 for this amazing project. RM15,000 is the equivalent to 3,200€, that will help finish the construction of the 3 classrooms and guarantee a safe space for more than 100 Refugee children to have access to nursery and primary school.
