The Conquest of Grab App : The King’s Domination in the Disruptive World

We all know that the world has transformed tremendously in a fast speed exhilarating to another period of time in the blink of an eye. In this dynamic pace of a borderless world, the Foodpanda and the Grab apps are examples of the type that disrupt the former concept of hailing a taxi from the street or driving to your favorite restaurant miles away to get our favorite nasi ayam or nasi kandar. For city dwellers you can go anywhere by just installing your grab apps or you can just order any menus from the Grab apps .They can be considered as a king of domination in the disruptive world,  the fast efficient and reliable service in every consumer’s mobile phones. It is an undeniable reality of life we are living at the moment of time. The Grab services have disrupted the existing market of ride-hailing services. In tracing this new technological revolution, it is essential to raise a few main questions. When we talk about the disruptive world, do we really understand the term? Are we aware of its existence? To what extent this type of world would mean to us?

 Disruptive innovations can be defined as those based on which a product or service has been developed that incorporates a technology initially introduced in simple applications at a lower market price range (Christensen et al, 2018). Grab is the great example of applying this innovative concept of disruptive innovation due to it disrupting the concept of taxi services by introducing a new emergence of technology with a cutting-edge of sophisticated technology such as an apps development to get a ride-hailing for anyone to go to any destination. Another important definition from the articles of Frontiers of Psychology as suggested by Christensen (2018) is that disruptive innovations are not considered breakthrough innovations or ambitious upgrades of existing products or services that would dramatically change business practices and business models. Instead, they consist of straightforward and affordable products and services. Competitors recognize the market potential of such products and services, which are capable of transforming a particular industry.

  It is likely that Grab is not inventing a new concept but rather it is reevaluating the existence market value of taxi services to an upgraded start of the art tech savvy type of services. Instead of standing on the street to hail the taxi car, Grab disrupts the existing market by incorporating the use of mobile phones with an apps application and using the data-driven concept which is more efficient to the public. Thus, they just get a grab car from the apps at any of their convenient times. Furthermore, the market penetration of grab is not merely focusing on ride-hailing services, their extensive market penetration has comprised the idea of bringing the mart and food delivery services together throughout the apps platform. Grab has disrupted another two vital services that they know we cannot live without these services: ordering our daily meals on the Grab Food apps and getting our basic needs like buying just toiletries at the Grab Mart apps.

 Apparently, most people have downloaded the grab apps in their mobile phone, it has become a necessity at our present time. As such we are aware of disruptive innovation through the existence of Grab as one of the successful examples of technology that has evolved over a certain period of time. During the most challenging of covid-19 pandemic time, we agreed that grab has been used widely as our virtual helper in assisting us to avoid getting out and jeopardize our health just to get food on the table. Since the pandemic of Covid-19 has been impacting our life, we saw the surge in demand for the Grab Food and the Grab Mart apps. 

  If we do not have this king’s domination of our current disruptive innovation world that is the Grab apps, how can we survive during this pandemic time? It is such a risky life without the Grab apps and we all know that it has been part of our daily life now. So, we have to agree that the Grab app is like a savior to us in this time of Covid-19 pandemic. We should be grateful to have it as part of life support to survive in this critical of Covid-19 pandemic time. Whenever we need to restock our groceries just order from the Grab Mart, it prevents us from getting the higher risk of being affected by staying at home and we know that prevention is better than cure.
