Persons With Disabilities

WHO WE ARE

PIBI (Persatuan Ibu Bapa dan Ahli Intervensi) is a non-profit organisation for parents and the interventionists at Genius Kurnia, a special needs centre for disabled children (Autism Spectrum Disorder, Blind , Deaf, Cerebral Palsy and much more)

WHAT’S UP WITH EARLY INTERVENTION?

Early intervention is critical, this much is agreed by the experts working with autism individuals.

Many parents of children with special needs would inadvertently worry what would happen to our children when we are gone. While the world can be daunting to a neurotypical mind, it could be severely challenging to those who are on the autism spectrum.

Cerebral Palsy is a physical disability that results from brain injury. Children will have difficulty moving, controlling coordination and body posture The level of cerebral palsy is different for every child. Some cases only affect the physical ability. While some cases can result in severe physical impairment. Beginning in 2018, we have been accepting Cerebral Palsy in our community and programmes. Through early intervention the development of the child in various aspects such as communication and social skills, physical, self-management, behavior management, and pre-academic

Early intervention could and would help significantly improve the possibilities of development in children– this includes increased social and daily living skills. This could help ensure a better quality of life for these individuals when they enter adulthood.

A RIPPLE EFFECT

Raising disabled children creates a ripple effect which could be significant on many aspects such as relationship, work commitments, existing responsibilities, but most of all - finances. According to recent studies, the cost of caring for a disabled child over his or her lifetime could cost a staggering US$1.4 million.

Imagine how this would affect individuals with disabled children from low-income families (earning less than 200$ per family income) when the cost of early intervention program in private centres could go up to at least US$500 a month?
