THE PROBLEM

Dear all,

Amidst Covid-19 pandemic, and the Movement Control Order (MCO), many vulnerable families that are infected and affected with HIV are in need of resources.

These families consist of children, undocumented, aging care takers, unemployed and single mothers with minimal and unstable income.

These families had worked hard to strive through tough time again and again, however during this period of MCO4, their jobs were affected and as a result they are struggling to acquire necessary resources.

Prior to this, PT Foundation had successfully raised a total of RM8965, and RM7536.95 has been spent to fund 38 vulnerable families with immediate needs. However there are still many vulnerable families in need of help.

THE SOLUTION

Hence, with our prior success in fundraising for Covid Grocery Drive (Phase 1), PT Foundation is currently organizing a second Covid Grocery Drive (Phase 2) to fund another 30 vulnerable families. These families are infected and/or affected with HIV who are mostly children, undocumented, aging care takers and single mothers with no stable income.

Although there are still a fund of RM1428.05 remaining from the previous crowdfunding additional funds are still required to fund food stock, delivery and transportation fees, as our goal is to provide RM200 worth of grocery items to help our clients to survive MCO4 and preparation for upcoming Ramadhan. Our total target for the current campaign is RM 6000 for 30 families (average of 4 people per family).

PT Foundation is strictly obeying the government orders to social distancing to break the Covid transmission chain, therefore all groceries will be delivered through grocery stores and runners. We welcome any amount of donation and it also covers the transportation cost.

THE IMPACT

This campaign will provide the much-needed resource to fund these vulnerable families with food supplies amidst MCO4.

Tax exemption receipt will be given for donation RM1000 and above.

About the Organization/Project behind this Campaign

PT Foundation

PT Foundation (previously known as Pink Triangle Foundation) is a 33 years old NGO leading in HIV field in Malaysia. We provide prevention, testing and treatment for HIV. We also provide support and care for people infected and affected with HIV especially the marginalized and vulnerable community including refugees, migrants and undocumented.

Our 2nd Chance program provides psychosocial support, and academic mentorship and empowerment program including basic skills to HIV infected and affected children and caregivers. We aim to provide sustainable care, hope and opportunities to poor mothers, youth, and children who are infected or affected by HIV.

More than 80% of our beneficiaries are Muslim. Most of our children are from low income and broken family. Most children are suffering from poor academic performance as they are not attending the school regularly due to poverty and discrimination due to their HIV status. Some children are the survival of domestic and sexual abuse; some are engaging with delinquent activities.

Mental health is very crucial and important as untreated condition can lead to suicidal, depression, a behavioural problem which can later lead to crime. Therefore, we are providing one to one and support group sessions to the children and women to help them to recover from the trauma, depression, anxiety and behavioural problem.

Many of these children need personal mentorship to encourage them to complete high school. Therefore, we provide one to one academic mentorship to guide the children to enjoy learning and tailor it to their capacity and focus span. The program is designed creatively to provide individualized services as we believe one size do not fit all.

Most of the caregivers (mothers) are self-employed or unemployed due to their HIV status. Many of them are the survival of domestic violence where their husband is drug abusers who have been sentenced to prison. Drug abuse is a crime in Malaysia and due to this, many ex-convicted unable to find a job to provide for their family which lead the cycle of domestic and drug abuse to be continued again. Therefore, we also provide empowerment and skill program to help these mothers to generate income to provide to their children.

Our services include shelter-homes or HIV-positive young adults, outreach sessions and guiding other NGOs which serving children at-risk.

Due to Covid-19, many services have been shifted to online and phone services but we are expecting to return to our routine fully in Jan 2021.
