The School Toilet Project

THE PROBLEM

Hi! We are students of SM Sains Pasir Puteh.

This year, we designed and implemented The School Toilet Project initiative in our school as part of the Design for Change ‘I Can” School Challenge to develop social impact projects using the simplified design thinking methodology of Feel-Imagine-Do-Share (FIDS).

The Challenge aims to develop impact-driven, socially conscious, self-confident, and globally competent Malaysian students.

Have you ever been to a public toilet and you see yourself disgusted before your eyes? What a horrible scene! It is not common to see a dirty public toilet even in developed countries. This says a lot about our community that we live in. We think it's time somebody takes action to end this seemingly never-ending problem. Starting the closest public toilet; our school toilet.

A good toilet is supposed to be dry, clean, and comfortable enough to use. And we think our school needs to be upgraded. Our school toilets are lacking basic supplies such as toilet and soap. This has caused quite a problem to the students.

THE SOLUTION

To achieve our goals, we are planning a series of activities and products to clean toilets more efficiently. We have made a DIY natural cleaner and toilet cleaning bomb from scratch without harsh chemicals. With the funds received, we can provide each toilet in our school with our products. Maybe with enough funding, we could further research our products to improve the quality.

We have also planned several activities and modules to help raise awareness about toilet cleanliness. We are planning to go to several schools and kindergartens to continue our journey. If we have enough funding, we could go to every school in our district! Plus, we need better recording equipment for our video as we are planning to reach a wider audience.

THE IMPACT

We strongly believe with this project we can change the minds of young people to practice good toilet etiquette and maintain good cleanliness. With this project, a new generation that respects other people and practices good cleanliness will be born.

With enough funding, we aim to upgrade our toilet in the future so every student can answer nature's call in a better condition. Having soaps is not the only thing that made a good toilet. Clean water supply and well-maintained lights are also one of the characteristics.
